Trainee Dental Nurse (Apprenticeship)

We are recruiting for a general practice who is looking for an enthusiastic candidate who is eager to begin their career in the dental industry as a dental nurse apprentice/trainee.

In this role you will learn whilst you earn and full training will be provided, so you don’t need any specific experience. You’ll work with senior team members to develop the skills, knowledge and behaviour to become an accredited dental nurse, whilst working,

Duties to include:

Follow practice open and close procedures to ensure patient comfort, safety, and confidence in our service

Ensure that the clinic and associated areas are organised so that patients are treated in and efficient and safe manner.

Work as a team with either a dentist/hygienist/therapist to ensure the patient receives the highest level of care and experience consistently.

Keep the clinical areas and all equipment and instruments clean, tidy, and sterile as appropriate according to the practice’s health and safety and infection control procedures and manufacturers’ instruction.

Use all equipment and machinery in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations and ensure that they are maintained regularly and in good working order.

Provide chair side assistance, ensuring that the correct equipment and materials are available

Ensure the care and welfare of patients

Accurately complete patient clinical records as directed and make sure they are secure

Complete logs of infection control and audit on a daily basis to open and close the clinic

Handle all substances in accordance with health and safety policies

Be familiar and comply with all health and safety rules and guidance, including PPE, COSHH, mercury handling, infection control, waste disposal etc

Process and file radiographs as directed

Learn how to operate digital scanning equipment and photography equipment within the scope of practice for a dental nurse

Complete laboratory request forms, keep records of work sent, received and fitted

Ensure adequate stocks of materials and other items within the surgery and keep this in an organised manner

Order new stock supplies as necessary being aware of the budget and with permission of the Practice Manager

Supervise locum members of staff when required and take them through an induction of clinic procedures to aid the smooth running of the day and your work. Sign time sheets where necessary and locum contracts

Ensure computer/written records are accurately maintained and securely stored

Ensure that the patient details are correct, and the recall has been set properly

Assist with wellness testing carried out at the practice

Liaise with reception to ensure smooth patient communications and transfer of records

Attend and participate in practice meetings

Assist in the organisation of internal marketing events including e shots and promotions

Check the message book and ensure that all messages are dealt with from the day before. Record any new messages and store book secure

Other duties as necessary for the efficient operation of the practice (including the duties and tasks of receptionist as required)

Undergo training as may be required to develop skills and abilities

Attend refresher and update training for medical emergencies and CPR

Act in accordance with the practice rules and code of conduct

Work at other practice locations from time to time as required

Answer the telephone in the prescribed manner using your name as part of the greeting

Assist with booking or cancelling appointments when needed

Welcome all patients arriving at the practice introducing yourself

Collect and record patient payments when needed

About the Apprenticeship

The Apprenticeship Programme will last for 18 months and you will achieve an accredited recognised qualification, allowing you to register with the GDC.

We will support you to gain your Functional Skills if you require them in Maths and English.

Block training is complemented by a combination of regular coaching visits from one of our experienced Coaches as well as Virtual Classroom sessions and E-Learning modules
