Level 5 Diploma in Leadership & Management for Residential Childcare
This is the required qualification for managers working within children’s homes – must be gained within 2 years of starting post.
It’s designed for learners wanting to work in residential care with children in a deputy or managers role. Settings can include residential care homes (and specialist), residential special schools, therapeutic communities, secure children’s homes, shared care, and short break settings.
This diploma is independently funded by the learner or the employer and is not subject to any Government funding or support.
What is Covered?
This qualification provides the skills and knowledge needed to manage practice and lead others in residential childcare settings for children and young people. The qualification enables the learner to gain essential skills and knowledge for leading in a residential childcare setting, including leading and managing a team; leading and managing group living; leading practice to support children and young people; and implementing policies and procedures.
It also offers the learner the opportunity to cover optional topics which are particularly suited to specific residential childcare and respite care settings
Learners must achieve 65 credits. 57 credits must be achieved from Mandatory Group A, and at least 8 credits from Optional Group B.
Units include:
– Leading practice to achieve positive outcomes for children and young people in residential childcare
– Managing risk in Residential Childcare
– Leading and managing a team within a residential childcare setting
– Understanding support for children and young people who are vulnerable and disadvantaged
– Leading and managing group living in residential childcare
All units will be internally assessed using standard methods, such as professional discussions, workplace evidence, observations & assignments. Support given through e-portfolio system, emails/calls and resources.
Who is it For?
This qualification is mandatory for individuals managing a residential childcare setting. On completion, it provides the qualification to develop a career in this vitally important and rewarding sector. Jobs may include: registered residential childcare managers, deputies and assistant managers. It also provides expertise for entering other sectors including social care.
