Apprentice Nursery Assistant required for a wonderful, home-based Nursery in Chinnor, Oxford

We are looking for a caring and enthusiastic person who is keen to start their career in childcare as a full-time Nursery Assistant whilst completing their Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship.

Our client is a independent, friendly and highly respected nursery, based near Chinnor, which is committed to a high standard of physical, emotional, social and intellectual care for the children in their care. This is very hands on role and the successful applicant must enjoy spending time with children. Attitude and a love of children is a must-have. Specific roles and responsibilities within the job include:

Main Responsibilities:

· To maintain a very high level of care, health and safety and assistance in the nursery.

· To engage with parents/carers.

· To support the other staff within the nursery.

· To assist and uphold the daily routine.

Main Duties:

· Contribute to a planned programme of activities suitable to the age range of children in partnership with other staff.

· To keep a proper record of achievement file on key children, for parents/carers.

· Work alongside parents/carers of special needs children to provide full integration in the nursery.

· To be flexible within the working environment.

· Be prepared to help where needed to, including to take on certain domestic jobs within the Setting, e.g. preparation of snack meals, cleaning of equipment etc;

· Recording and reporting accidents in the accident book. Ensure the manager has initialled the report before the parent receives it;

· Be constantly aware of the needs of children and how to help.

· Constantly look for where your help can be utilised in the Setting.

· To respect the confidentiality of information received.

· To constantly develop your role within the team.

· Ensure each child is collected by someone known to Setting.

· Support the development of good practice with regards to special needs and inclusion. Implement and support others in delivering the EYFS in line with current practice and guidelines.

· To actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace, ensuring Setting policies and procedures are observed at all times.

· Ensure that practice and provision in the nursery meets the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

Health and Safety within the Nursery:

• Undertake a shared responsibility for health safety and cleanliness throughout the nursery.

• Adhere to all health and safety policy and procedures.

• Be fully aware of all emergency and security procedures.

• Washing and changing children as required, including nappy changing.

• Providing comfort and warmth to an ill child.

Working in a Team:

• Support staff with their day- to- day duties.

• Be responsible for taking part in all self- development activities such as appraisals.

• Develop open and positive working relationships with staff.

About the Apprenticeship

Your apprenticeship programme will last for 18 months and you will receive the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship. You will take part in regular online teaching alongside coaching sessions from our Skills Coaches, Virtual Classroom Sessions and E-learning modules. Throughout the programme, your employer and the training provider will support you to develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours to become a confident Early Years Educator. Level 2 Maths and English is required to complete the programme, however if you do not have these functional skills qualifications, we will support you in achieving them.


Applicants must have excellent communication and people skills, be eager to learn and genuinely care for young children in their crucial stages of life.

Maths and English GCSE grade C or above is preferred but not essential.
