Who is this diploma for?

The Level 4 Diploma in Adult Care (England) is specifically designed for learners wanting to work in Adult Social Care in England in the following roles:

What is covered?

Level 4 Diploma Only is made up of 70 credits and the guided learning hours GLH is 479-534 hours.

The credits are made up of 36 credits for the mandatory units and the remaining 34 spread across the optional units you choose that relate to the area that you work in.

The core mandatory units include:

  • Advanced communication skills
  • Personal development in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Equality and diversity in health, social care or children’s and young people’s settings
  • Facilitate person centred assessment to support wellbeing of individuals
  • Facilitate support planning to ensure positive outcomes for individuals and to support well 
  • Understand personalisation in care and support services
  • Health and safety in health and social care settings
  • Professional practice in health and social care for adults or children and young people 
  • Safeguarding children and young people who are present in the adult social care sector
  • Develop, maintain and use records and reports
  • Understand safeguarding and protection in health and social care settings

The course requires a placement of approximately 100 hours in either work or a voluntary position. At the end of the course, an assessor will visit the placement / work place to complete the final assessment of the work. You will be given plenty of notice and a personalised plan that will inform you of everything you need to prepare.

Entry requirements

You must be in employment in the social care setting. This can be full, part-time or in a voluntary capacity.

How will I be supported?

Once you’ve chosen your diploma, you will be allocated your skills coach who you will work with to agree choose your credits and agree your delivery plan. The assessment method for your diploma will also be discussed, so you know what to expect and what to aim for.

You will be given access to an e-Learning platform and a host of online learning resources to support your diploma. You’ll also be able to access features such as free additional sessions, workshops and CPD sessions.


What makes us unique is that we offer all our diploma learners the chance to access live teaching sessions as well as online guided learning. This provides a great opportunity to learn with your peers, in real time and to work with your skills coach.  Many other providers only offer the scope for learning independently, so this is a great way to embed your specialist knowledge and skills.
