AET Qualification

Are you interested in or looking to work in an educational setting? This will be the ideal start in your journey towards teaching in the educational and training sectors. This might be in adult, community or further education, in the voluntary sector, Beauty and Care sectors or In-house training.

Who is it For?

This Award is for new entrants to the Lifelong Learning Sector – you don’t need any prior teaching experience or qualifications.  You may be considering a career in adult education or you may be responsible for training members of staff in your organisation. The course leads to a national qualification, accredited by City and Guilds.

What is Covered?

Exalt Training Ltd will allocate you a dedicated assessor who will be the person who will support you as you work towards your qualification. During your learning journey, you will receive regular communication, to deliver the required knowledge that may be conducted remotely and/or face to face. You will plan assessments in such things like completing assignments, observing your ability to assess learner performance, asking questions and evidence gathering.

The course provides the knowledge and skills that you need to start teaching and you will learn:

– The needs of the adult learner

– Basic principles of teaching, learning and assessment

– Planning Lessons

– Using different teaching approaches and resources

The qualification is made up of several units and each unit covers a different activity so you can build up to the full qualification. There are three different types of units available:

Unit 301 – Understanding roles, responsibilities and relationships in education and training

Unit 302 – Understanding and using inclusive teaching and learning approaches in education and training (to include a Microteach)

Unit 305 – Understanding assessment in education and training Microteaching


The final assessment in this course is the delivery of a 15-minute microteaching session which you will either be delivered as part of the class or record and upload to your tutor for marking.

The microteaching should demonstrate your knowledge gained from the 3 units of the award including:

– An introduction, aims and outcomes, icebreaker and health and safety

– Deliver an inclusive lesson using a range of resources and methods

– Assess the learner and summarise the lesson

Learners will be expected to provide a range of written material to support their lesson including; scheme of work, lesson plan, peer observation and evaluation and a self-evaluation of their performance.

We will work with you to plan the most effective approach for you to gain your qualification. This could be either an intensive qualification five day session or four, three-hour sessions over the period of a month.
